St. Brigid of Kildare: Cathedral and Tower

Brigid’s monastery starts in 480—wooden, humble. She’s buried there in 525, her relics drawing pilgrims. By 850, Vikings threaten, so her skull moves to Downpatrick—but Kildare keeps humming. Around 900, a round tower rises; by 1223, a cathedral crowns her tomb site.
